Building Leadership as a Measurable Business Capability

Blogs

Meet Nora

Nora Gomez spent thirty years as a senior merchant and commercial executive across Pier 1 Imports, Victoria's Secret, Saks, Toys R Us, Belk, and most recently as Chief Merchandising and Merchandising Operations Officer at NFM, a Berkshire Hathaway company.

She scaled revenue from $1.4 billion to more than $2 billion and led teams of 400 and more. She also watched the same thing happen in every one of them.

Strategy rarely breaks at the top. It breaks as it travels. Executives set direction and believe it is clear. Managers interpret competing priorities. Teams experience something else entirely.

Leadership isn't what leaders intend. It's what people experience.

That is why she founded Next Generation Growth and built Human Intelligence: leadership as a measurable business capability, not an individual soft skill.

The Human Intelligence Index measures how leadership is actually experienced across six dimensions: Clarity, Alignment, Capacity, Culture, Execution, and Future Fluency.

The Human Intelligence Method builds the capability to close the distance through four Acts: Calibrate, Integrate, Elevate, and Accelerate.

Nora works with CEOs and executive teams through executive advisory, leadership training, fractional executive leadership, and keynote experiences. She lives in Brentwood, Tennessee.

Because when leaders get clear, organizations move.

Kind Words & Testimonials

  • "I've always found inspiration in your posts and articles.  One thing that particularly resonated with me was when you talked about how you made a commitment to your team each year, an in return, you encouraged them to commit to you.  This concept will always influence my approach to building a team and surrounding myself with people dedicated to the same purpose.  Your demeanor, confidence, and ability to engage with others demonstrated what you can do when you have built a strong network of people who respect and admire your work.  It was eye opening as I've never seen someone (from NFM) with the same control over an event.  Based on that day, this is the one skill set I will continue to work on throughout my career.  I hope one day I can create the same impact on someone from afar that you had on me without even knowing it.  Thank you for being such an impactful leader in the industry."

I really haven't been able to find the words to say how grateful I am for you and your mentorship, the kindness you've shown me, my family, and my team and just how much I appreciate everything you've done for me.  I do not know if I have fully processed you not being here, but I do feel very confident in the lessons you instilled in me that I can navigate all that comes next.  I will miss you deeply as my boss, teammate and advocate.  I will always cherish what you did for me over our time together, highlighted by not only advocating for me for the award but to go to the infinite extra mile having my family at the ceremony.  Thank you so much for everything and for helping me grow into a more capable and confident leader and for being my best champion, challenging in a multitude of ways and for wonderfully celebrating the victories with me!"
